How To Overcome The Sin Of Lust

This letter tells of my experiences with God and what he told me when I called out to Him to free me from the sin of lust.
It was when I was first saved that I called out to God because I knew that I was not right with Him, I was married to the most wonderful woman in the whole world and I did not want to sin against her or God, but I was not yet free from the demonic stronghold and I knew that I could not overcome it on my own.
Although I knew very little about the Bible I knew that God was my only source of Strength in this struggle. I decided to start repenting every time I saw a woman that I lusted over. Now you have to understand, I worked at a grocery store.
As you might imagine, there are a lot of very good looking women that come in and go out throughout the day. So when I saw a woman I would repent, over and over I did this day after day. Something like twenty five times a day or more I would repent. I was physically drained. I got so tired of repenting, after about two weeks of this I was about to give up when God told me. It is only those who ask for forgiveness that are forgiven. And I said- but I am so tired of Repenting, and God said - as long as you are willing to ask for forgiveness, I am willing to forgive. So I said, -Then I will ask until I am dead or until you deliver me. The next day I was delivered. It was so weird to look at a beautiful woman and not feel the spirit of lust.  I would look at a woman and feel calmness, a feeling of peace. I know I was delivered. Now in hindsight let’s look at what it took to overcome this stronghold of Satan. Intense and unrelenting prayer and repentance, a spirit of not giving up on God to deliver me. A total dependence on God is what is needed to overcome anything that the devil throws at us. God likes it when we call upon Him for even the little things. Don’t think that God is too busy to be bothered, He is not like us, He is God and is well able of take care of all your needs in everyway. Matthew 5:28-You have heard that it was said, you shall not commit adultery. But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.  You might ask, then if God is that strict about lust and looking at women, then How do I overcome this monster of a sin. The truth is that you can’t, it is impossible for you, But remember, you must call upon nothing else but God’s power to overcome this, because with God all things are Possible. Lust is one of the biggest and most powerful tools Satan uses to destroy the church. O yes, some Christians do have the sin of lust, and some never completely overcome it because they are not willing to let go of  this sin in that area of their lives, If they truly wanted to be free from lust, God is more than capable of delivering them. Now don’t get me wrong, It is not a sin to look at a woman, if it were a sin, you would have to go through life looking at the ground all the time. No, it becomes sin when you look with the thought- O man, she looks really good, I wish I could go to bed with her. That would be sin. But if you look and your thought is- Yes she is very beautiful, God is the masterful creator of all things but I don’t have any lust in my heart towards that woman or any other because I only love my wife. And yes I still see women every day, it is unavoidable, but by the will of God I walk free from this powerful stronghold of Satan because when the Son sets you free you are free indeed.
